1. Generic Android (power button + volume down)
On the vast majority of Android phones, whatever the brand, taking a screenshot works the same way: press the power button and the volume down button at the same time and hold them for 1-2 seconds. You'll see an animation on screen and hear (or feel a vibration) confirming the screenshot was taken.
2. Samsung: capture by swiping your hand
Samsung phones also have a very handy alternative method: swiping the edge of your hand from side to side across the screen, as if you were "cutting" it with your hand. For this to work, you first need to enable the "Palm swipe to capture" option in Settings → Advanced features.
3. iPhone with side button (iPhone X onward)
Since the iPhone X, models no longer have a physical home button. To take a screenshot, press the side button and the volume up button at the same time. The screen will flash briefly and the screenshot thumbnail will appear in the bottom-left corner.
4. iPhone with home button (older models)
If your iPhone still has the physical home button (like the iPhone 8 or earlier, or the first-generation iPhone SE), the combination is different: press the home button and the power button at the same time.
5. Full-page capture
Sometimes it's not enough to capture what's visible on the screen — you need a whole page or an entire conversation:
- Android: many manufacturers show a button called "Capture more" (or similar) right after taking the regular screenshot, which keeps adding the rest of the content further down.
- iPhone: if you're in Safari and take a screenshot, the "Full Page" option appears before saving it, letting you export the whole webpage as a PDF.
6. Where screenshots are saved
Screenshots are automatically saved to the phone's photo gallery: in the Photos app on iPhone, or in whichever gallery app you use on Android. In both cases, they're usually grouped into a specific album called "Screenshots".
